Snakes can predict earthquakes. R esearchers in China have found that many animals are actually able to predict earthquakes to varying levels of success. It’s come to light that snakes are the most reliable, sensing earthquakes from as far as 75 miles away (121 km). What’s more impressive is that they can sense an earthquake as many as five days before it actually occurs! When a snake senses an earthquake, it will run (or slither, in this case) away from its nest, even in the darkest days of winter. Bananas are curved because they grow towards the sun. L ong have philosophers pondered the humble banana, arguing until the sun goes down as to why they’re curved. It turns out that bananas go through a process called “negative geo-tropism,” which causes them to grow upwards towards the sun instead of towards the ground.
